Fairtrade Cleaning - a new way of thinking
At The Green Desk, we believe office cleaning services need to change.
Why?
For one, the treatment of cleaning staff is frequently not only unfair, but abhorrent. Did you know they have a 72% chance of being psychologically abused? There’s also a 26% risk of physical abuse.
At the same time they’re in constant contact with a huge range of dangerous, toxic substances like bleach and a whole range of POPs (Persistent Organic Pollutants). Not only are these bad for health, but the environment too.
We weren’t just going to sit and wait for things to change. Instead, we’ve set up a Fairtrade Cleaning Company. Still in its early days, it ensures only fantastic environmentally friendly products are used and all staff are treated and paid equally, including the directors.
Our goal is to change people’s perception of the cleaning industry. By transforming working conditions and standards, we want to empower staff and give them every chance to make the best of themselves in their life.
